Protect an Android device with Safe Surfer

It’s easy with Safe Surfer to block harmful online content on an Android device. On your first protection installation, it will take around 30 minutes for the full installation, or 45 minutes for the entire guide.

Step 1: Visit the Safe Surfer dashboard

| We demonstrate the installation process on a Samsung device (running Android 14, released in 2023), although the steps will be very similar if you are installing on a different kind of device. This guide is designed for customers who already have a Safe Surfer account, but you can still follow along if you’re using just the Android app by itself—simply skip the parts regarding the online dashboard. Some optional features may not be available on budget devices that run Android Go edition.

Visit the Safe Surfer dashboard (https://my.safesurfer.io) on one of your personal devices and log in to your account. Click the Devices menu on the left-hand sidebar, then click the New device option.

Click the option labelled "Another mobile, laptop, or desktop device".

Click the Android option.

Click the option labelled "Get the Android app".

It’s easy with Safe Surfer to block harmful online content on an Apple mobile device. On your first protection installation, it will take around 20 minutes for the full installation, or 30 minutes for the entire guide.

Step 1: Install protection

| The Safe Surfer app requires at least iOS/iPadOS 16. You can find this information on the device to be protected in the Settings app > General > About > Software Version (or iOS/iPadOS Version). If the device to be protected doesn't support a software upgrade, you can still use a different method of protection (for devices running iOS/iPadOS 15). This guide is designed for customers who already have a Safe Surfer account, but you can still follow along if you’re using just the iOS app by itself—simply skip the parts regarding the online dashboard.

Visit the Safe Surfer dashboard on a personal computer and log in to your account. Click the Devices menu on the left-hand sidebar, then click the “+ New Device” button.

Click “Another PC, laptop, or smartphone”.

Click “iOS”.

Step 1: Visit the Safe Surfer dashboard

On the device to be protected, click the Microsoft Edge app (or any other web browser app, such as Google Chrome) on the taskbar.

Visit the Safe Surfer dashboard (https://my.safesurfer.io) and log in to your account. Click the Devices menu on the left-hand sidebar, then click the New device option.

Step 2: Install protection

This area lets you download the correct app installer for this device. In most cases, you will be downloading the installer that has been preselected for you (that is, the 64-bit version). | We don't support Mac devices managed remotely by an organisation (that is, when you're using the device as an employee or a student and the device isn't owned by you).

Step 1: Install protection

On the device to be protected, click the Safari app on the dock.

Visit the Safe Surfer dashboard and log in to your account. Click the Devices menu on the left-hand sidebar. Click the “+ New Device” button.

Click “This device”.

Click “Apply filter settings”.

Enter a name for this Mac, then click the Accept button.

Under “Step 1: Download profile”, click the “Download” button.

Click the Allow button.

This guide will take you through the full installation process as a parent/caregiver. If you're setting up a Kid-Safe device for the first time, it will take around 20 minutes for the full installation, or 30 minutes for the entire guide.

Step 1: Device setup

|| Important: To simplify the setup process, if you already have a SIM card for the device, you should insert it after you've finished this guide. The device might mention to "Add SIM to connect to a mobile network", which can be ignored. Once you've reached the end of this guide, you can safely insert a SIM card if applicable.

After taking the device out of the box, turn it on by holding down the Power button.

Once the device has turned on, tap the Start button.

| If you're setting up a tablet, you might also have to select your languge and restart the device as instructed on the device.

Tap the checkboxes for the End User Licence Agreement and Privacy Policy, then tap the Agree button.
