How can I purchase a Kid-Safe Smartphone or Tablet device?

Safe Surfer Kid-Safe Smartphone and Tablet devices can be obtained by purchasing a compatible device from a retail shop. After the device has been purchased, we can then activate the Kid-Safe Experience for you before the device is turned on for the first time.


Important information


Please read all of the following information, as it contains various details that you need to know before getting started.


  • The Safe Surfer Kid-Safe Experience is not automatically preloaded on Samsung devices. We use a special Samsung cloud technology to prepare the Kid-Safe Experience for you. Before unboxing and turning on the device, please wait for confirmation from us, as per the following instructions. For each device you activate, you'll get 50% off the first year of a Kid-Safe subscription ($64.50, being $129.00 for subsequent years), which is automatically charged two weeks after the setup process. The phone itself and any SIM card (and its plan) is separate to the Kid-Safe Experience subscription.
  • If you haven't used Safe Surfer before, please wait before creating an account. We strongly recommend creating an account during the Kid-Safe setup process, where we'll send you an email on how to do this after we've performed the activation process for you.
  • If you are currently paying for Pro Surfer (that is, the normal Safe Surfer app solutions) on a monthly basis, you will need to switch to an annual subscription (either before or after setting up a Kid-Safe device) for billing purposes.


Step 1: Purchase a compatible Samsung device yourself


Purchase any of the following compatible Samsung Galaxy devices from a New Zealand retailer:

Note regarding Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Fit devices


With regard to connecting Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Fit devices to a Kid-Safe Smartphone/Tablet, we can't provide support for this due to the following reasons:


  • Activating a Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Fit device requires a Samsung Account, where you have to be 18 or older to have a Samsung Account in New Zealand.
  • In the default Essentials mode, connecting and using a Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Fit device might not work due to our lockdown design.


Your child doesn't need a Samsung account to use the Kid-Safe Experience and most device features.


Step 2: Request activation


Once you've bought a device, visit the Activate page to send us an activation request. Activation requests take us approximately 1–3 working days to process. Please wait for an email from us (which will contain the setup guide) before unboxing the device and turning it on.


Step 3: Wait for confirmation


Once we've notified you via email that we've activated the Kid-Safe Experience for the device, we'll also send you the parent/caregiver setup guide.
