Can my Wi-Fi Lifeguard router protect devices against VPNs?

Wi-Fi Lifeguard features the ability to provide VPN connection alerts and the blocking of VPN connections. As the Wi-Fi Lifeguard interface describes, VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) can be used to get around firewalls and filtering restrictions, for example the restrictions provided by your Wi-Fi Lifeguard. Wi-Fi Lifeguard has the ability to monitor its own network to detect when a connected device starts a VPN connection. As originally intended, VPN technology has legitimate purposes and is used by businesses to access computers and computer networks from off-site.

Safe Surfer holds a database of commonly used VPN services and connection types. We update our database as needed.

You can view alerts and other VPN detection settings from the VPN Alerts menu on the administration panel sidebar:

VPN alerts are always on, and VPN blocking is off by default. If you want to enable VPN blocking, begin by clicking the cog icon at the top right of the menu:

The following advanced options will appear for you to configure (VPN alerts cannot be turned off):
