Why does Microsoft Edge say "You're not connected" and "ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED"?

If you're protecting a Windows, Mac, or Linux device with Safe Surfer, and the device user is using the Microsoft Edge web browser app, in rare cases you might see a message that says "You're not connected", along with an error code of "ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED". If you see this, it could be caused by Safe Surfer blocking the Edge Secure Network feature, which would otherwide bypass our network filtering. Edge Secure Network is an opt-in browser feature that we block by default through our network filtering.

Turn off Edge Secure Network

Inside the Microsoft Edge app, click the three-dot button at the upper-right corner (next to the profile icon) > Settings > click the "Privacy, search, and services" menu on the left-hand sidebar > Security > scroll down to the Microsoft Edge Secure Network section, then turn off the toggle switch to disable the Edge Secure Network feature. Once you've done this, close the Microsoft Edge app and try again.

If you still see the same message, this issue isn't being caused by Safe Surfer. This would only be caused by Safe Surfer if the Edge Secure Network feature is turned on, since we block Edge Secure Network connections by default. If needed, you can allow Edge Secure Network by visiting the Blocking menu and allowing the Edge Secure Network category.
