Safe Surfer has been tested on a wide range of devices and web browsers. Unfortunately some devices and browsers can have design issues or even hijack your user experience. A list of devices and browsers we recommend can be found below. We are not sponsored by any company or organisation.

Web browsers

Recommended web browsers:

Firefox

The Firefox browser has been improved significantly over the past few years to catch up with Google Chrome in terms of speed and security. Our main concern with Chrome is the following: Chrome uses on smartphone and tablet devices a technology called AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages). AMP is a lightweight website preview system (that is, effectively a proxy) on opting websites, which makes it difficult for us to prevent inappropriate content from being seen in specific cases. This makes Firefox safer to use in general than Chrome in terms of content filtering on these kinds of devices. Google services (for example, Google Search and Gmail) can still be used on Firefox.

Alternative web browsers:

Chromium-based browsers (Brave; Google Chrome; Microsoft Edge; Vivaldi)

Google Chrome is an excellent web browser, but as mentioned above, Google has made some changes to the Chrome browser on smartphone and tablet devices over the past few years to use a new technology called AMP. For this reason we recommend considering Firefox, but we do support the using of Chromium-based browsers. Some Chromium-based browsers on mobile do not use AMP.
