Monitor the devices I protect
After setting up protection for devices that you look after, you now have a new and exciting responsibility—getting to keep an eye on them! Our job is to make this as easy as possible for you. The information below will help you do this like a pro. Let's get started!
If you haven't already, you should install protection on the devices that you would like to monitor. We came prepared... with articles! If you need to do so, you can open this link to find out more.
Once you have installed protection for devices you are looking after, you can find them listed within the My Devices menu on the Safe Surfer dashboard.
Each device listing has a series of buttons that you can use to monitor activity. The quickest way to take a closer look at any particular device is by pressing the "More Info" button on its listing.
The details menu that follows will present you with important information regarding the status of the device, along with useful links to other parts of the dashboard. For example, clicking the "Block Sites" link will take you to the menu where you can change the filter settings for this specific device. As per the screenshot below, this example device hasn't had any history of being connected for protection. It's a good idea to periodically check the "Last Internet Activity" field on your device listings.
If the "Last Internet Activity" field is reporting Never (or over 90 days ago), you should check to see if protection has been installed correctly (or disabled).
Click the History menu on the left sidebar of the dashboard. This will bring up a tool that allows you to review the website browsing history of devices. Click the drop-down bubble (marked by the number "1"), followed by selecting a device (marked by the number "2"). As per the screenshot below, this device has attempted to access some advertisement-related domains, along with a number of safe test websites we classify under our pornography category.
The tabs on this page can be selected to view more detailed information surrounding web browsing (on either all devices or a specific device).
The "Blocked Sites" tab displays blocked websites inside their respective categories. The "Viewed Categories" tab displays accessed websites inside their respective categories. The "History" tab displays a comprehensive list of website domains that were accessed by the device (or blocked). The "Activity" tab displays a usage chart regarding the numerical amount of websites accessed (or blocked).
Alright, now that you've begun monitoring devices, here are some top tips to keep in mind:
Receiving a weekly alert email from us can serve as a great reminder to regularly monitor devices.
Having regular discussions with your children or accountability partner regarding their web surfing experience can help build healthy habits. What do they like about their experience? Is there anything that they would like to change, or for you to help them with?
Keeping devices in open areas can further build healthy habits to avoid temptation.
