How to enable two-factor authentication for my Safe Surfer account
You can enable two-factor authentication for your Safe Surfer account to provide additional security. This guide will show you how to get this set up.
Two-factor authentication is different to a one-time passcode. We might email you a one-time passcode if you log in from a new location (for example, over mobile data rather than your home Wi-Fi network).
Click this link to open the Security & Login page on the Safe Surfer dashboard. Once you're on the dashboard, click the Enable Now button found under the two-factor authentication section.
To use two-factor authentication, you will need an app to store the system that generates a new two-factor code every 30 seconds. An easy option is Google Authenticator (which supports automatically backing up your code system to your Google Account).
Apple App Store: https://apps.apple.com/nz/app/google-authenticator/id388497605
Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.authenticator2
Once you've downloaded the Google Authenticator app on your device, click the Next button.
Open the Google Authenticator app. On the home menu, make sure that you're syncing by checking the cloud icon at the upper-right corner (it should be green). Once you've done this, tap the "+" button at the lower-right corner, then tap "Scan a QR code". You can now scan the QR code on the dashboard.
Once the QR code has been scanned, click the Next button.
To verify the two-factor authentication system, enter the code in Google Authenticator into the text box, then click the Next button.
Click the Download button to save a list of account recovery codes, then click the Done button.
If you need to turn off two-factor authentication for your account in the future, you can do so by opening the Security & Login menu and clicking the Disable button found under the two-factor authentication section.
Make sure that you store these codes somewhere safe. If you lose access to your authenticator app, we cannot turn the two-factor authentication feature off for your account.
