How to enable two-factor authentication for my Safe Surfer account

Two-factor authentication provides additional security for your Safe Surfer account (for example, preventing unauthorised app PIN resets or stopping others from breaking into your account). This guide will demonstate how you can enable this feature for your account. It's easiest to do this by visiting the online dashboard (as demonstrated below) on a laptop or desktop computer.

Two-factor authentication is different to a one-time passcode. If you're not using two-factor authentication, we might email you a one-time passcode if you log in from a new location (for example, over mobile data rather than your home Wi-Fi network).

Enable two-factor authentication

Click this link to open the Security & login page on the Safe Surfer dashboard. Once you're on the dashboard, under the two-factor authentication section, click the Enable now button.

To use two-factor authentication, you will need an app to store codes that regenerate every 30 seconds. If you're not using a password manager app, we strongly recommend using Google Authenticator, which supports automatically backing up two-factor codes to a Google account. The rest of this guide will presume that you're using Google Authenticator.

Google Authenticator

Once you've downloaded the Google Authenticator app on your device, click the Next button on the dashboard.

Open the Google Authenticator app. On its home menu, make sure that you're syncing codes to your Google account by checking the cloud icon at the upper-right corner. Once you've done this, tap the "+" button at the lower-right corner, then tap "Scan a QR code". You can now scan the QR code on the Safe Surfer dashboard.

Once the QR code has been scanned into the Google Authenticator app, click the Next button.

To verify the two-factor authentication system, enter the code in Google Authenticator into the text box, then click the Next button.

Recovery codes

The online dashboard will provide you with recovery codes in case something happens to your two-factor codes. Click the Download button to save a list of account recovery codes. You might like to store these safely in a password manager app, digital note, or print them. You can permanently delete the recovery codes file once you've stored them safely.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that you store these codes somewhere safe. We cannot disable two-factor authentication for your account if you lose your two-factor codes and recovery codes.

Click the Done button.

Back in the Security and login menu, you should see confirmation regarding two-factor authentication having been enabled for your account.
