# Why does Safe Surfer for Windows not work after installing or replacing a Wi-Fi or Ethernet adaptor?

If you installed the Safe Surfer for Windows app on a device [before January 2025](https://helpdesk.safesurfer.io/en-nz/article/safe-surfer-windows-app-changelog-1tibqnf/) (version 1.2.2, which features our new Protection enforcement feature), the protection installation won't be automatically applied to new Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapters installed or replaced for the device. If this is the case, you can resolve this by uninstalling protection, and then installing the latest version of the Windows app.

# Step 1: Uninstall protection

You can find our uninstallation guides for each respective Windows device by [clicking this link](https://helpdesk.safesurfer.io/en-nz/article/full-uninstallation-guides-4y9ajb/).

# Step 2: Install the latest version of the Windows app

You can find out how to install the latest Windows app by [clicking this link](https://helpdesk.safesurfer.io/en-nz/article/windows-full-installation-guides-1rtaor8/). This will apply protection to all applicable network adapters, and will make sure that the Safe Surfer protection is applied for newly installed adapters in the future (that is, we ensure that every time someone logs in to a Windows user account, all applicable network adapters are protected by Safe Surfer).
