Spark HG659b is a common modem router provided by Spark in New Zealand. This is a guide to manually configuring your modem router to use our Safe Surfer DNS servers if you do not have a Wi-Fi Lifeguard.

Using your favourite web browser (e.g. Google Chrome or Firefox), try visiting

If this does not open the Spark modem router administration panel, try visiting our Generic Router page. This page will try and help you automatically find your default gateway address:

Once you have opened the Spark modem router administration panel, enter in your administrator username and password. The default credentials for the administrator username and password are CaSe SeNsiTiVe:

Username: admin / Password: admin

On the left sidebar under Basic, click the LAN tab

Under the DHCP Server heading, find the Primary DNS server address and Secondary DNS server DNS address text boxes:

Enter in the Primary DNS server address text box and enter in Secondary DNS server address text box.

Click the DHCP server Submit button

Restart your modem router

Once you have performed the above steps, you should now be protected with Safe Surfer. You can check your device protection status by visiting the Safe Surfer website (
